DescriptionJohn Huggins studied at the West of England College of Art from 1956 to 1961 where he obtained an NDD & ATD. Became a lecturer at Bristol Polytechnic and Bath Academy of Art in 1962, continuing his teaching until 1976.1
Exhibited extensively since 1960, having
• six one man shows at London's Alwin Gallery,
• two at McHardy Sculpture Co, London,
• one in 1999 at Innocent Fine Art Bristol.
His work has been included in numerous group exhibitions:-
Beaux Arts Gallery, Bath; Ashdown Gallery, Sussex; Guernsey Sculpture Park; Bath Society of Artists as an invited artist in 2000; Smelik & Stokking Galleries in Amsterdam & The Hague.
1 He regularly exhibited at the RWA & became Artist Chairman of the RWA in 2001. Also a member of the Royal Society of British Sculptors.
His work is included in the collection at the Bristol City Art Gallery, Regional Arts Council, Bristol University, Phillips Petroleum, London, Singer Friedlander Bank, London and National Huntington Bank Columbus, Ohio, USA.
His sculptures reveal a preoccupation with forms and their interaction; details are pared away to give us the underlying essentials whilst the use of flat golden polished surfaces on the planes of the head or truncated limbs adds to the elegance of each piece.
He lived and worked in Gloucestershire UK.
